Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of getting an iSight and some of my freinds with PCs have webcams hooked up to their computers. My questions:

1. What webcam works well with iSight?

2. What setup should we use, i.e. shall we use iChat AV (which I prefer) or another chat program with video capabilities? Which Windows programs works best with iChat AV?

Thanks a lot!

Regards,
Nubben

I'm in the same boat but unfortunately I can only address what I have and use. I have a PB 15", and use the iSight and iChat. I love it. One the Windows side, my other PC's use Logitech 4000's. The only way I have found them to connect is if the Windows clients are using AOL IM 5.5 which, unfortunately is the WORST AV chat program around. The Logitech's image looks a little grainy on the mac (much better PC to PC). On the PC side, AOL's IM will not let you size the image, etc. which is not a problem for you (or me), but a real negative for the PC "buddies" that you are connecting to. I don't really know which part of the >PC >Logitech >AOL >iChat >mac is the weak link, as I said, the Logitechs going PC to PC, especially using MSN look pretty good. Most of my PC friends who use basic IM use AOL. Most of my geek and AV friends use MSN. Too bad there's not an iChat for the rest of the world!

Yeah the postage stamp size on AOL (PC) is laughable. I've ended up using iVisit to talk to family (their all pc, I'm mac). Nowhere near as good as iChat, but it works the best of everything else we have tried. You can use it free, for a half-hour at a time, at a somewhat low resolution. The paid subscription has a higher res and multi-way conference. If only Apple would port iChat to Windoze....
