Just got a 20" Cinema Display and it's awesome. I'm wondering what's the best way to prolong the life of the backlight. When I turn down the brightness control does the intensity of the backlight decrease? Or does the backlight intensity remain constant and the reduced brightness is accomplished by "closing" the pixels?
I set my energy control settings to put the display to sleep in 10 minutes. Other suggestions?

That is all you can really do.

ditto .. you dont want to buy a super nice monitor and then use it on the dimmest settings to prolong battery life ... 10 years of a cinema display at dim setting is WORSE than replacing a ok display every few years. it's like buying a lamborghini and only using it at or below 20mph to prolong engine life. sure people do that .. because lamborghini's are status symbols .. but atleast they are seen with their lamborghini's ... people arent going to see your cinema display. use it to the fullest
oh yeah .. enjoy it =)

I think Lancer 409 meant backlight life but I had question marks over my head when I read that too.
Here's what I've been wondering about; if you set the display to sleep after a short period of inactivity then you use it for a short period, let it sleep, use it, etc., is this worse for the backlight, going off and on, than just leaving it on for an extended period. I only ask because somewhere I heard that standard light bulbs burn out quicker if they're turned off and on a lot instead of just being left on. I know this is getting to the anal stage, but like kikkoman, I'd like this display to last.
