i have a 160 GB Maxtor as my external FW drive. but after reading some comments around here, it seems that maxtor is not as reliable as it used to be. what happened here? do they just slowly become a terrible drive maker? or is it difficulties in the higher capacities.

either way, should i worry about this and try selling the drive in favor of say a seagate or WD? (but that's a lot of hassle...to sell, and buy another one..move files, etc)

what do you think? should i worry? it houses a lot of important files that i can't keep on my PB.

Good luck trying to get an RMA on an intermittently failing drive as well... I've got a Maxtor 160GB 8MB drive that's generating bad sectors at random, but still passes their RMA test. No more Maxtor drives for me or my clients...

I had almost all the Maxtor drives that came with my mac or bought later on fail. They replaced them though and they seem fine.

No more for me though.
