Well, I would assume that he was referring to the story, which discussed the use of XServes for video distribution on Sprint's PCS network.

I disagree, however. Video on an iPod is just a bad idea.

agreed. The biggest problem being that there's no visual equivalent to earphones yet. (I don't doubt that as glasses with screens and/or flexible/roll-up screens become available, this sort of product will become available, but until then....)

A video iPod would not be worth it to watch. No 2" screen is worth looking at for more than a few seconds.

However, I think the idea of a portable HD-based device capable of storing many hours of ripped DVDs, QT vids, TIVO recorded movies, etc. with a video-out port and analog/optical audio out would be cool for taking movies to a friends house or on trips. No bulky DVDs to carry. No need for a portable DVD player or powerbook. Just attach the dock cable and connect the video and audio to your TV and watch away.

I doubt any product that can store highly compressed DVDs would be allowed to market with getting the attention of the DVD makers. It would have to be crippled in some way.

Perhaps this is what the 60GB HDs are destined for at Apple?
