I'm house-sitting for my friend for a couple of weeks. He's got a 450 Mhz PowerMac G4 with a 19" LG Flatron 915FT Plus display. The monitor is always popping and switching resolutions, going blank for a second, and changing geometry, but only during restarts.

I'll set the monitor resolution to 1280x1024 at 90 Hz, but upon restart, it'll switch to 640x480 (Apple logo is huge) and then it'll switch again when the login progress bar appears and takes up almost the entire screeen. When it's fully logged in, there's a 50% chance that it'll return to the resolution I set before restarting. And even if the resolution is correct, often the geometry is all f**ked up. I have to move it right or left.

Is this normal behavior for a non-Apple display when using OS X? Or is this a bug in Panther? If I set the resolution at 1280x1024, shouldn't it stay at that resolution during restart?
