Does anyone make a camera with just basic video recording minus the digital still capabilities and without the digital effects capabilities in a small form factor? A good optical zoom would also be really nice as would good low light capabilities. Seems like something like this could be made pretty cheap and would be very attractive to those of us that use our computers to edit our video.
This is the best bare bones camera that I can find. I know the first thing people will do is look at the price tag and scream that they can find a camera for $200-$300. Yes you can and if that is what you are looking for I would suggest a Canon ZR series camcorder.
This camera though the Panasonic PV-GS120 is a entry level 3 Chip camcorder. Simply put 3 chips are better than 1. Which is what all those 200-300 dollar cams are. The Three chips will help with far greater image quality. The picture will look sharper and you tend to be able to shoot better in low light. Plus is Has a Leica Lens on it. Which is a very good lens for the entry level. This camera does have a big brother and a big sister with more bells and whistles but also higher price tags.
I think it is a great household camera shy of a Canon GL2 or Panasonic DVX100a which go for more than $2500
