I just ordered a 40 gig ipod, and im wondering from peoples "experiences" how long the battery lasts. Hours of play, and how many full charges the battery gets.

Exactly, so add $50 to the cost.

Vote firewire 400 in 2004!

Actually I don't think there's a difference any more. You used to only be able to charge through the FW connector, but AFAIK that's been fixed recently. The FW+USB cable looks kind of dorky, so that's a strike against it. If you already have some FW cable around, the best option is prolly a PocketDock, which is a 6-pin firewire to dock connector adaptor. This works best for me since my 2G takes 6-pin only, while my GF's needs a dock connector, not to mention I had a bazillion FW cables to begin with.

P.S., looks like the new PocketDock model has both firewire and USB2 sockets
