Hello
hoping this is the right forum here is my problem

I got a USB 2.0 ADS HD kit, put in a seagate HD and everyting works fine on USB 1.1 but its Slooooooooow.

Mac is G4 dual 1 gz, lots of RAM, lots of internal HD. OS 10.3.4

I got a generic PCI card with 4 usb 2.0 and 2 firewire 400 connections.

on installing the card, and reboot I do not see the ADS HD. here is the various info from system profiler for the generic $20 card:

Bus: PCI
Slot: SLOT-3
Vendor ID: 0x1106
Device ID: 0x3104
Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x1106

Vendor ID: 0x1106
Device ID: 0x3044
Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x1106
Subsystem ID: 0x3044
Revision ID: 0x0046

USB High-Speed Bus:

Cypress USB Storage driver release 1.0 for Mac OS X 10.1

This driver provides support for ATA and ATAPI storage devices using the ISD725, ISD200 or ISD300 USB Bridge chips.

so it seems to me that the computer see the card. the top two catagories are under 'PCI" info.

the middle is under USB info in sys profiler. NB it sees the USB 2 I thinik and the Firewire.

the last is some software from ADS that came on a CD for 2.0 drivers. I did not install these as they seem quite old.

Sooo the questions are: I assume that OS 10.3.4 will run USB 2.0 and I do not need 2.0 drivers.

on the generic card there is a criptic note that a DC power cable can be connected to the card internally for "optional instalation for additional Current Support) I have no idea what that means.

any ideas on what to do to get this to work?

the card seems to be recognized, but can't communicate with the ADS HD. does this mean its defective?

any and all help appreciated.

one more thing to add:

I connected my HP USB printer to the card, and in the sys profiler under high speed USB this printer does not show up.

so does that mean the card is defective?

I connected a Firewire HD to the firewire connections and nothing comes up there either.
