so...am looking to buy a new pda to replace my old clie that got lost...
Finally narrowed it down... Trying to decide between the Tungsten E and the T3. What advantages does the extra $200 of the T3 get you? Is the screen really all that much better?
Also, is it worth waiting for Palm 6 models?
thanks,
tyler

T3 has widescreen (and landscape viewing mode), and the graffiti area of T3 can be hide away to make available viewing area even taller (or wider).
Built-in Bluetooth, with optional 802.11b (via SDIO card).
I think PalmSource did say current Tungsten models can upgrade to Palm 6 (Palm OS Cobalt), so you don't need to wait for new models to use Cobalt (although I think there would be new Tungsten model(s) coming out before Christmas).

Theres always the Palm Zire 72, which is nice. Bluetooth, camera, option for 802.11b if you want via an add on card. Plus $100 cheaper.

So what do you guys think of the tungsten t5?
seems a bit of a let down to me - removing the slider is a bugger, and also all it offers is a slight speed increase and loads of memory (sd card anyone?)
I mean surely its just worth nabbing a discounted t3 now?

Go for the T3. Better bang for the buck.

I own a Tungsten T, and I have grown to really hate the slider. Hopefully this is a sign of the slider's death.

That's what I thought initially, but as time went one I found it awkward to use, and I haven't seen a case design yet that works well with the slider.

It took me a while, but I finally found one that works perfectly with the T2. Even in the dock.

I didn't like the Rhino cases. Bad experience with them.

I bought my girl friend a refurbished T2 instead of the T3. It was only $200 vs $400 for the T3. You should buy according to your needs. What will your main applications be for the palm?
I avoided the Tungsten E because of the multiple poor quality and reliability reviews I saw on amazon.com The Tungsten E only has a 90 day warranty compared with the others. Customer service from palm is practically non-existent. Their customer service phone line is based in India. Thus, I went with the more reliable T3.
The Tungsten T5 is likely due in November. It seems that new palms or updates are announced in the fall. Rumors indicate the T5 to have flash memory, and no slider. Do a google on Tungsten T5
Good luck.

It's no longer a rumor, and the T3 is now $349.

The T5 "upgrade" is LAME!

What would be your definition of decent?
If you want built-in WiFi, you can get Tungsten C already with built-in WiFi.
Palm OS 6 (Palm OS Cobalt is the official name) can be used on existing Tungsten models when it is released by PalmSource (PalmOne has very little control when PalmSource release their OS I guess). So, you should have email PalmSource when will the Palm OS Cobalt ready, rather than blaming PalmOne.
If your m505 is trusty, why would you want to abandon it?

Well the T3 came out on Oct 2003 - in 1 year palmOne have added some memory, a marginal increase in processor speed, and a better batter - and removed the voice memo. That's not a decent upgrade.

The C is already 18 months old!

Cobalt was shipped to licensees (incl palmOne) last December. And to my knowledge there is no official confirmation on Cobalt ugrades for existing Tungstens?

I want something faster, better screen, built in wifi, built in bluetooth, more memory.
How long have PPC had built in wifi/bluetooth units out for? I don't want to move to PPC but palmOne will have to release a true "top end" unit soon.

Something faster? I've got a T3, and I really can't think of why I'd like a hand-held to be faster. Perhaps in the future, but right now there aren't any apps that I use that feel sluggish.
As for cases, I've got an HP case that is ideal. I've never had a better case/PDA combo in terms of usability.

I have a Tungsten E with a 256mb Memory card. It works great, plays nice with iSync etc. What I can't figure out is why it takes 15+ minutes to send a single 3.5 mb mp3 to the memory card during a sync? It will upload applications in the several megabytes of sizes in seconds, but takes a ridiculously long time with mp3 files.
Anybody know why that is?
