I want to add 2 SATA drives to my G5, I will either buy a bracket to fit 2 drives in the front or run the SATA cables out of a PCI slot...

I will obviously be getting a SATA PCI card to run this as well

Anyway, my question is this; I want to set these up RAID 0 with apple's drive setup (software RAID) what kind of speeds can I expect from this setup? How much faster than a single SATA drive?

Anyone do this and offer any advice?

I haven't read about speeds with the G5 and SATA but when I had a SCSI RAID in my G4 it almost doubled performance. I went from around 38MB/sec sustained to around 55MB/sec. this was using Apple Drivers. I got poorer performance using the Atto Express Stripe. I'm sure they've updated the software since then (about 3 years ago).

Firm Tek just announced a card with external SATA connectors if you decide to take the external route. http://www.macnn.com/news/26236.

Good find on the card, now I should just find some benchmarks and find a cheap (double 3.5" case) to be ready for the card, if anyone has suggestions on one with the power connectors let me know.

Thanks!

I saw this one a couple weeks ago but couldn't find it for the last post. It's on the main macnn page today.
