I know this has been posted several times, but no definitive answer was ever posted.

I have a SanDisk SmartMedia USB reader - ImageMate ending in 55. This is the THIRD reader I've purchased to work under the various upgrades from 9.x to OS X and beyond. I'm running 10.3.5 and it doesn't work. The reader seems to be recognized, but never the card inside the reader (won't mount).

I tried someone's fix of copying an old kext file to my new system, and that doesn't work- in fact, I get an error when I start up my machine.

So does anyone have a fix or do I have to buy another reader? Can someone recommend a USB reader for SmartMedia from another company? I like SanDisk, but I just cannot keep buying readers every time there's a OS upgrade.

thanks

Mine doesn't work either, and it's a 6 in 1 reader. Piece of junk. I even downloaded OS X drivers from Sandisk but it still won't work to import photos into iPhoto.

Bizarre.

I have a SanDisk ImageMate 6-in-1 USB 2.0 reader which works perfectly. A friend of mine has the 8-in-1 version which also works perfectly.

That's really strange. All those things do is imitate USB drives. It's hard to mess them up. I had a SanDisk CF reader a hile back that worked without problems.

The problem might be with the card itself and not the reader. I use a sandisk 6 in 1 reader on my g5. sandisk memory cards (cf, sd) and sony memory stick cards have never given me a problem. But my friend's PNY compactflash card and a compusa labeled cf card both refuse to mount through the card reader. however both cards can be seen when connected through my canon digital camera.
