I purchased a Moto V505 yesterday from ATT (replaces the V600). It has BT but doesn't sync my contacts. When I open BT Preferences, and discover my phone, the only option available is for using my phone as a modem... the option boxes for Syncing my contacts/etc is greyed out
I was very disappointed to see this as everything else about the phone is truly awesome (size, key pad, camera, screen sharpness, ringtones, speakerphone, voice dialing). (I had a SE T637 but returned it as the keypad was way too small for me. BT syncing worked great on the SE.)
Does anyone know if there is a way to sync Moto phones or do I have to live with it not syncing to my Mac (just a BT headset)??
Will functionality for sync come in a new release from Apple? or is this a Moto issue?
Thanks for your input.

I know nothing of Motorola phones, but if memory servers right, it is only possible to sync via a USB cable at the moment. I believe this to be because Motorola have only just begun to support bluetooth; when Apple write iSynch they didn't. I dont suppose its a problem with the bluetooth implementation.

Based on other answers to this I've seen on these boards, Moto supports a different protocol (SyncML?) for pushing data back and forth. iSync, on the other hand, requires something different. From what I've gathered, iSync was originally going to support SyncML, but when it came to release, it didn't. With Tiger and it's new sync engine, however, these problems are rumored to go away and you'll be able to sync your Moto phone via Bluetooth 'til the cows come home. Until then, however, you'll either have to buy OnSync (just updated to version 1.7) or use a USB cable.

OnSync? Cool, I've never heard of that.

I'll check out VersionTracker. Thanks!

I just picked up the V505 as well. Great little phone, but yeah... the syncing left me wanting. OnSync does a decent job, but only handles contacts and won't sync calendar entries. I'm still undecided on whether I'll keep this or switch to the T637. I think I'll try out iSync in the Tiger preview. Unfortunately Salling Clicker doesn't work either, though I don't know how much I'd actually use that program.

Yeah, it is a cool/good phone besides the lack of iSync compatibility.

Did/does OnSync work with BT?? I tried and it didn't... I figured the only way was using a usb cable which I don't have.

If you DID sync your contacts with BT (which is all I really need for now), can you tell me how?

PS - I had the T637 & returned it... keys are too small for me (and the overall phone itself too... at first I thought this was a positive, but after using it I decided it was actually a minor negative, to me at least).

Thanks for the feedback on the T637. I kind of like the idea of a flip phone, but I also want good syncing. So, I've been doing a little digging and the rumor is iSync will support the SyncML protocol (the one Moto uses) in its next release. Supposedly that is the BT syncing protocol that most newer phones are using. In the meantime, a USB cable can be used to sync contacts and calendar entries.

I did get OnSync to work quite well, although it seems to drop the connection and crash every now and then. Not a huge deal. Read the PDF here. I couldn't get my phone to sync at first, either, until I realized you need to set up a serial connection through Apple's BT utility. After that I was golden.

If you still have issues after reading that perhaps I can help you off the board.

Check out this link for more info on rumored future iSync compatability with Motorola phones.
