So there was a conversation a long time ago about this and no one seemed to have an answer, anyone ever experience this or find a solution on how to fix it?

Ever since I have gotten my Cube, I have been unable to use iSight with iChat. By not being able to use it, I mean, the camera is recognized by iChat because I have a green camera icon by my own name in my buddy list, and I can click on it. Other people can see that I have a camera. They can click on it. But whenever I or other people click on it, a black screen shows up. I can't see them, they can't see me. No error. No nothing, just black black, and not dark as if there isn't enough lights, like a digital blackness. Audio works fine as judged in the iChat preferences but I cannot hear the person and they cannot hear me.

The iSight camera though works perfectly in the following tested applications: iMovie, Sound Preference Pane (as a Microphone Input), Yahoo Messenger, and SubRosaSoft's HomeGuardian.

The iSight works great in iChat on my PowerBook G4. There isn't much difference between my PowerBook G4 (in terms of software) and my Cube.

I've trashed preferences, I've even reinstalled iChat, but to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do? I'm open to anything except reformatting or reinstalling. Also an archive and install doesn't work either.

I had this with a camcorder. Blank video. Then we plugged in an iSight, and it worked. Then we tried the camcorder again, and it worked as well! On the PB sitting next to it, both cameras worked first time. No idea why the other PB didn't at first work with the camcorder.

Maybe try plugging in a different camera to see if that resets something? It seemed to work for us.

Holy cow, I've got the answer. Laurie over at CubeOwner.com knew how to fix this:

Install the latest version of SIMBL-

http://culater.net/dl/files/SIMBL-0.4.tbz

Check your user/Library/InputManagers

for a folder labeled SIMBL. It's an old version, trash it, restart, install the new version from the above link and all is well in iSight Land.

Thanks so very much for the fix and this thread. I spotted it in a search for MY iSight black screen issue.I spent 2 hours on the phone with Apple with no joy on this. Their only suggestion was to reinstall. No way fro me right now. They even said they didn't support iChat because it was still in beta. Thanks again for the fix/info/discussion.Werd.
