I have heard many horror stories on people with PCs about how the Logitech software blowsx1000000000000000. It installs spyware and all of that crap and it never works. Is this true?

Will I need to use this software to use the 7 or 8 buttons it has or will I be able to get something else?

I have the MX700, owned the MX500 before that and found the software to be all that it claims to be. In other words it doesn't blowx1000000000000000

The mouse works great, I can configure all of the buttons, both the MX700 and the 500 works great with the macs. I wouldn't use any other mouse.

Conversely, I'd stay away from the mx900, as it is not mac compatible.

i've actually heard the mx900 works nicely with mac, even if it isn't compatible. but i'm not one who needs a wireless mouse, don't see the need

I use USB Overdrive with both the MX500 and MX700, everything works perfectly.

Spyware from commercial software?? That would be one company to stay away from! No, Logitech's software for Windows works fine, it's just somewhat limited and brings up annoying windows when you press a button for the first time. Their Mac software, however, does not do that and allows you to do MUCH more than the Windows version. It still doesn't allow you to set up button configurations for individual apps, which you'd want USB Overdrive for.
