Anyone adventurous enough to try using the iPod with any firewire CF reader to see if it works?

Here's a link to a SanDisk reader:

Here's a link to a 6-pin female to 6-pin female connector:

Considering the SanDisk is powered through firewire, its just a matter of if Photo Import likes the CF or not... in theory, it should be no problem at all.

Considering this setup will run you to around US$60, and will only drain the battery of the iPod instead of a Belkin DCL and the digicam, don't have to worry about "compatibility issues" for the most part, and smaller device to carry around, I'd say its a good deal if it work... Anyone got enough $$ to experiement? I would if I didn't just burn $2200 on a Canon EOS-20D and now in $4k of (interest free) CC debt...

It wont work. iPod doesn't have any software onboard that pulls files from an external card, it merely acts as a storage medium. The Belkin devices facilitate the transfer, just like a computer would.

BTW, I bought the Belkin Digital Camera Link for my 4G, and it works perfectly with my Canon PowerShot S50.

Isn't that why Photo Import is there as part of the iPod Extras?

you only need a xfer medium because USB requires one... Firewire doesn't... I haven't seen anyone who's given me a convincing enough reason why it would or wouldn't work, nor anyone who's actually tried it... maybe I'll run to Fry's and see what I can do...
