has anyone noticed that once you fill up your 40 gig ipod that when you click on the eject button through iTunes, or using the contextual menu through the finder that the ipod screen kind of holds for about 10 seconds, maybe a little more before that "do not disconnect" message disappears? I don't know if this is just mine, but my previous ipod didnt have this delay when disconnecting, is this normal with you 3rd gen 40gig owners?

here is another question, is it normal for the ipod to turn off, or at least the screen, once its done playing an album? Mine has been doing that as well, but I dont know if thats normal or not.

Mine doesn't do that (20g 3G), it goes back to main menu, it does turn off by itself after 60 seconds of inactivity, but I'm sure you knew that.
So I don't think that's normal ...

As for the 'do not disconnect' message, mine takes his time sometimes to unmount, the message stays there for about 4-5 seconds ...

eigh ok, that sounds about right then. I guess I am paranoid about my ipod and some behaviors. Thanks for calming a paranoid mind.

It's ok, its not as smooth as a baby's butt, but it isn't choppy either ... it's a nice scroll, but not perfect.
