I was wary of buying anything by Macmice because of all the things I had read about its creator, but the iFlex looked like a good idea so I ordered one. The only problem is that it is completely useless. Whether I plug it into my powerbook or the back of my cinema display, the weight of the iSight itself makes the iFlex bend out of position. It won't stay in any position for more than 20-30 seconds, and many positions cause it to fall over immediately. I notice that the firewire jacks at either end of the cable are free to rotate, which I think may be causing the problem. My question is this: do I have a defective one, or is this just a piece of crap?

My vote's on b) piece of crap.

You wanted flex, you got flex.

Note that in the image, it only stays because it's actually propped against the screen - obscuring part of the screen, naturally.

I have one, but I have something I lean it up against about a third of the way from where it's plugged in. it works great with that in mind. I have a powerbook, and I plug the flex into the fw port of my external HD, so when I need to move the computer I don't need to worry about hooking/unhooking the isight.

it does bend a bit if you don't have it resting on anything. my suggestion is to bend it in such a way that when it "droops" a bit then it ends up in the position you want.

i have one and i think it is more on the crap side of things. if i position the isight to touch the monitor it is okay, other than that, it just droops.

i have not used mine in a long time. not too sure where it is actually.

You answered your own question. They are crap. Silly me, I bought one too! Although it was the version with the base, but otherwise much the same thing.
It broke after ONE flex.. Thats right, set it up how I wanted it (Makes an awful creaking noise when you move it) plugged it in. Worked ok. Decided to move it slightly, and the cam stopped working and could never be made to work again until I used the normal iSight stand and cable. The cable inside must have broken.
The damn thing could barely stand up properly anyway because the base is too small and not really heavy enough.
Complete and utter crap. The packaging was made better than the stand itself, and thats saying something.. After all the bad press i've read about MacMice, it's the last time I'll buy anything from them
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

Actually, if I'd made that connection in the store I wouldn've bought it myself.

I just didn't really think to connect the two, until I saw the post above about MacMice and its "reputation" - and believe me, it has one!
