Hi, I'm new to the forum!

I'm planning on buying me a 20" iMac G5, and I'd like to connect it to my TV in the other end of the room via S-VHS.

So, I buy the Video converter (mini-vga to svhs/composite) and plug it in. Next, I'll be wanting to use the Screen Spanning Hack to connect the extra output to an external LCD display, but I still want to be able to watch movies on my TV.

Any suggestions so far?

Solutions that came popping to my head was to find a LCD display that takes S-VHS signal (starting at around 700-800 USD) or an LCD-TV (starting at a little less) (for this to work I'll have to get a S-VHS splitter, but thats np). Disadvatage of the LCD-TV would be lesser image quality, right?

Is this the easiest solution, you think?

I guess there's no way to split the mini-vga, wich would be the optimal solution.

Thanks, and sorry for the ranting =)

I don't think, even with a splitter, the iMac will support both extra displays at once. You will have to use the composite adaptor for your TV and then unplug it and use the VGA adaptor for your monitor.

But I could be wrong.

Why wouldn't it? The iMac wouldn't even "see" the splitter, nor the destinations. It would just supply the S-VHS splitter/amplifier with signal.

If you're referring to wether or not it supports two displays, I'm planning to install the spanning hack...

Ok, I had trouble understanding exactly what you were asking before (and still am to some extent).
You want to split the S-VHS line to two sources. This in theory should be okay, but the 2 sources will be sent the exact same thing to display. Is this what you want?

I think the quality on the LCD monitor will be quite poor as it might not be able to get as high a resolution as with the VGA. Do you want to use the LCD as a noormal computer monitor when not watching a movie? Would it not be better, in that case, to just change over the adaptors for when you want ot connect to your TV? I don't understand why you would want to watch a movie on 2 displays at the same time?

I don't really understand what you want to do here, but you should know that outputting S-VHS to an LCD monitor for any purpose other than displaying video would be unusable (don't even think about using it for normal computer uses).
