I've been rather disappointed with the sound quality of my Tunecast (first model for the non-dock connector iPods) from the day I bought it. I would usually give very good sound if I physically touched the iPod or the Tunecast but I can't drive around doing that. I decided it was time to open up the Tunecast and see if anything could be done.
Well, first thing I noticed was that there the "antenna" is in the form of an extra wire in the cable that connects the Tunecast to the iPod. Ding ding, that's it! The wire is actually soldered to the logic board next to the right, left, and ground wires for the headphone jack.
What I did was to drill a very small hole in the Tunecast just above where the solder terminal is for the antenna, unsolder and cover up the exposed end of the antenna wire, thread a length of 22gauge insulated solid copper wire through the small hole, and then solder it to the "ANT" terminal. I then put the tunecast back together and gave it a test.
It was so much better! I had great stereo separation, didn't get interference form radio stations, and didn't even need to have my car antenna extended up. The only drawback is the wire sticking out of the Tunecast.
I don't know what length of the wire antenna would be best. Maybe I'll do some testing for that.
Anyway, don't get mad at your Tunecast, make it a better device. And post here if you make this mod and like it.
