Hi
I've had a new mini iPod for a week or so now. I've only been fiddling with it so far. I'm switching it off by pressing/holing the play/puase button. However, I noticed that the click-wheel sound is still operational and it switches back on instantly, showing the last menu. Is there some kind of stand-by mode?
The reason I'm concerned is that the battery life is dropping drastically each time I switch it on. I really haven't used it yet - there are no files on it. Each time I switch it on, it hasn't remembered my settings for the backlight, etc.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Why are you even shutting it off, just stop playing music and click on the hold button. No more worrying about your iPod playing all your jams without you, untill you un-hold it.

I'm not playing anything yet - just switching it on/off.
However, I've just found some posts on the Apple forum about this problem - the battery indicator seems to show hardly any charge, even when a new mini iPod has only just been charged for the first time, then switched off. It seems to be a problem with the chrage indicator and nothing more.
But why does it not remember backlight settings? ie - 'on for 2 seconds'.

I would agree that you don't really need to "turn it off" -- just put it on hold and let it fall asleep. But that doesn't seem to address what you are asking about. The settings should not be reset every time you turn it off. Sounds like it might be a faulty battery. Of course, since you apparently haven't even tried it out with music yet, you might want to do that. But if it still gives you problems, I'd call Apple.

Put some music on and try it. If your settings still aren't being kept then call Apple. Call them sooner rather than later and they should give you a brand new iPod rather than a refurb as a replacement (I think).

If you are noticing a drastically decreased battery life, you must call apple quickly. There is a different warranty for the battery than there is for the rest of the unit. Also, they will not replace the iPod except on rare occasions. They will instead repair it. But I strongly encourage you to call them quickly if you notice a battery problem
Good luck!
