I am looking to get a display however the 20" is a little too large and a little too expensive, so i was jsut wondering if apple would ever re-release a 17" screen in the new cinema display casing?

if not what would be a good alternatvie, i heard samsung made the lcd's for apple; is this true?...if so can you reconmend a nice 17 (or even 15) from them that will look nice with a powerbook

I highly doubt that Apple will release a standalone 17" display.
I am currently using the 17" Studio Display Rev.B.. still going strong after 20 months of usage. I set it to the lowest brightness since day 1.

For alternative, I like those new NEC flat panels.

Check out Samsung's 172X; there are some comments from forum members and you can check out some reviews which seem pretty reasonable.
