Hey guys. I just my brand new Epson R200 and I am having some problems installing my printer. I connected the printer and installed the software, rebooted and everything. But when I go into the print utility area in system prefernces to add the printer, it shows the printer but says "drivers not installed". I have tried installing everything again and rebooting but it still shows this message. Any ideas? Thanks -Chris

You can try this ...
Deleting and Re-adding Printer
1) Disconnect printer, power off.
2) Run "Disk Utility" from "Applications -> Utilities", repair permissions (precautionary measure).
3) Run "Printer Setup Utility" from "Applications -> Utilities"
4) Highlight the printer and remove it
5) Quit "Printer Setup Utility". Restart Mac.
6) Connect USB and power up the printer. Wait a little.
7)_Open "Printer Setup Utility" again, highlight the printer you wish to print from
8) Select this printer as "default" by clicking on the corresponding icon on top of this window.
9) Try again to print
If this fails ....
1. Delete the printer drivers - Library/Printers, and install the drivers available on the Web site of the printer's manufacturer.
2. Delete the printer from Printer Setup Utility. Turn Off Printer and disconnect. Restart Computer. Reconnect Printer and turn on. Wait a little. Open "Printer Setup Utility" again. Click the Add Printer button. If the specific type of printer you're using is listed, choose it. For example, if you're using an Epson USB printer, you may be able to choose Epson USB. Select your printer from the list. Click Add.
You may need to turn on special features of your printer. Select the printer in the Printer List and choose Printers > Show Info. Choose Installable Options from the pop-up menu, select the options you want to use, and click Apply Changes.

In case you have not yet done this, when installing a new printer driver I found I had to restart before I could use it.

I disagree. It may have limitations, but they are not serious; all things have limitations.Or are you talking about a specific part of printing management you're dissatisfied with?

Well, it may be my printer but from time to time the printer won't work etc and after deleting/reinstalling the drivers it does work etc. And sometimes you need to reboot.. Quite annoying since they advertise that it works like plug 'n play but it doesn't. Printers in OSX is the most problematic area of the OS in my experience everything else Just Works™. It may well be my old Epson Photo 750 who causes problems... So I'm not really blaming the OS 100%.

Epson seems to be deliberately screwing over OS X users who have older printers. They released a new version of my Epson 900's driver awhile back, which I thankfully got on my iBook. When I upgraded to my G5, only the original OS X driver was available, and it had communications problems with the printer. I could not find the updated version anywhere. I phoned tech support and gave them the information, including the fact that the newer driver they pulled cured the issues I was having. They could not give me any help. Long story short, I transferred the driver to my G5 and installed it manually. The printer still does not function 100% properly, but it is now functional. I can only imagine that Epson did this in order to compel customers to upgrade to new printers. I'm a sucker, though - Staples has a good deal on the Epson cx5400 ($99 after rebate plus $20 gift card), so I purchased one yesterday.

Sometimes printing in OS X just seem clunky and slow compared to windows, for example printing to one of our network printers in OS X take a good 5 - 10 seconds while on windows the printer kicks into action the second you click print

Let me guess: you selected "USB" as the connection type. Don't. You need to select "Epson USB". Then it will work right.
