I notice that the high gloss photographic quality print outs of my older epson 740 are better than my new Epson Stylus Photo R200... I mean, pictures look so real and sharp its like a real photograph, like a color magazine page, but in my newer epson, high quality print outs are like the one we get on a cheap canon all-in-one bundle printer... somebody explain that to me!!!

Although neither are photo printers, the photo printing quality of my Stylus Color 600 was much better than my C80. I've given up trying to print photos at home when Costco does so well for so little.

i don't think EmmEff was referring to YOUR printers, he/she was referring to his/her own printers, namely the Stylus Color 600 and the C80, which ARE NOT photo printers. EmmEff is sort of agreeing with you: older epson looks better than newer epson.

I wonder if it was the switch over to pigment inks that made prints look markedly different. The last Epson printer I had was a C80, and the prints from my old 740 and 777 printers looked more vibrant. After the C80 became the third Epson I owned to die from clogged nozzles, I switched to Canon and never looked back.

so, Canon is the next "old epson better quality" option right now?
