Hello! Would the Apple Production Studio Suite work on a powerbook G4, 1.5 GHz, 80GB HD, 1GB RAM? I am concerned about the memory and speed...or is it absoulutely necessary to get a G5 desktop for this suite? I was hoping to go the laptop route...

I run the entire production suite on my Powerbook with those same specs. Helps if you have the 128MB VRAM and 5400 RPM Drive. It will take up about 30-40GB of HD Space so I would recommend getting a portable 7200 RPM drive for your Capture Scratch disks and media. I use Motion, FCP, and DVDSP all the time on my PB.
It's just an ordinary day and it's all your
state of mind, at the end of the day, you
just gotta say it's alright!

Should I go for 2 GB vs. 1 GB RAM? Will it make that big of a difference in speed and space with the Production Studio? The cost difference with Mac is $1200 extra for the 2 GB, but I will do it if it makes life that much easier.

Don't buy memory from Apple, go to macsales.com or something and save yourself a few hundred bucks. I have 2GB in mine. Motion is a RAM hog, and even 2GB isn't enough. Just my 2 cents.

2GB will help quite a bit in heavy-duty apps like FCP and Motion.

But as posted above, Apple's prices are quite high. I like to buy memory from Crucial.com. Top notch quality, good prices, and widely regarded as one of the best memory companies.

Thanks, Filmmaker 2002 and Cadaver! Guess what! I found the PB at MacMall for $2594 - 1.5 GHz, 1GB RAM, 5400 RPMs, 80GB HD, 128 MG video card! I am so excited and just put it in as a special order! Now I will look for deals on extra RAM and an external drive. MacMall has a 500 GB external drive for $447, but do I need that much space? It sounds like your 7200 RPM external drive may be better, Filmmaker2002 (O: Any suggestions on where to purchase one? I will be surfing the websites both of you have already mentioned...Thanks for the info!
I will let you know when I receive my PB! Yipee!
