hello

My iPod has started to behave erratically. I don't know if its hardware or software.

its a 30GB ipod with firmware 1.50 and unit software 10483 ( from disk info)

sometimes when I put it on the firewirebase, it seems to do a diskchecking ( I guess) rather than recharge. this may be a different issue.

the other day, on play it said that there was no batterrry power ( baterry area blank) but played for qo min, then stopped. I figured low battery but it had been changed. than after 10 min or so it started palying again, and did so until I( finished at the gym. I looked at it and it said battery was about 1/2. that seemed about right.

today with a full battery it played for about 20 min, then no sound. on checking it, the song was playing ie the bar indicated the song was progeressing. maybe a bad headset connection>?

I fiddled with the buttons and it started palying again, but then the bar and time on the bottom of the song was not progessing!!!

fiddled more and it went off and then seem to be back to its old self.

Is there a disk first aid for iPod? how do I differenciated software vs hardware issues?

Im using iTunes 4.5 I think. I was under the impression thaat 4.6 was more 'restrictive' in some vague way so did not update. I only have 3 purchased songs and mainly now use the iPod at the gym and depend on it to get me through various tediums there. hard to check what wrong while on the treadmill, and I hate the treadmill w/o some sort of song to pay attention to.

thanks for any help with these issues.

rotut
