I have two questions about the new iPod Photo, one which can be answered by new owners and another that would probably require information from Apple.

1. Does the Contacts feature display contact pictures? (I think this would be a kind of cool feature but definitely not necessary.)

2. Why do the iPod Photos have less skip protection time than normal iPods? (iPod Photos show 17 minutes on the official spec page, normal iPods show 25 minutes. I thought they originally promised 30 minutes with the 32MB buffer, maybe it's OS overhead or room for caching images or something.)

http://www.apple.com/ipodphoto/specs.html

TIA

1. Doubt it, since photos aren't part of the VCARD spec, AFAIK.
2. Is that really a problem? I mean, 17 minutes is still overkill for skip protection, IMHO. I remember with 30 seconds was the standard on CD players.

For second question, my guess is that displaying photos and color screen take away portion of the embedded memory from being used to buffer the music.

I don't mean to be funny, but isn't 17 minutes enough?

With the iPod Photo having less skip time, it might lead us to think that the battery might not last as long (as the hard drive is spun up when it runs out of music to play out of the buffer). Ahhh, we say. But then they thought of that, and put a larger capacity battery in....
