hi, i just got a mini about 3 months ago. was working fine for about 1 month. now it seems to freeze up sporadically. i can only access the menus again when it completely discharges all power (in which case i have to charge it up again). also sometimes when i charge it, and it says done, as soon as i take it off the charger the power bar is only half full. also, sometimes i'll just leave it alone (in sleep mode), turn it back on and it only has a sliver of power left. i've tried resetting the ipod (using restore feature in ipod software manager) and i've tried reformating. problems were temporarily aleviated, but now they are back. any suggestions? the "genius" at the "genius bar" told me to set the hold button to orange when i'm not using it. this has not helped at all.

Apple has some info on their website basically stating that the iPod is never really "off." It's just in a low power "sleep" mode similar to computer sleep. The reason for this is to allow almost instant access to your music (instant on feature). If it were to power down completely every time you turned it "off," it would take quite awhile to turn it back on again, the hard drive to spin up, etc.
The battery meter is inaccurate (Apple has admitted this) and also doesn't really "refresh" until the hard drive spins up. Thus, while charging, it will look like it's full. Then, when you pull it off the charger, it may go back down a few notches until the hard drive has a chance to spin up and "update" it.
Can't help you with the other problems.

yeah. i know about how power "should" work. if it was just a matter of the power bar being inaccurate i wouldnt' care, but the thing completely powers down when it shouldn't be. i was wondering if anyone experienced anything similiar.
