I have a 2.5" external HD with firewire which I have partitioned for a bootable clone of my iBook and the rest for storage.

I'm not sure now if it is 4200rpm or 5400rpm.

I was wondering if I could install VPC 7 onto it with either XP or 2000 rather than run it from my iBook's HD.
PowerBook 12" Combo 1.5Ghz 1.25GB Ram 100GB HDD - Yep it's PPC! I'll wait for the 3rd generation MacTel when they're at their best :)

You could do that or keep the applicatin on your internal drive and store only the disk image on the external.

How would I do that?

Well, you'd run the actual Virtual PC application from your iBook. But when you run VPC, you should be able to specify a hard drive to use for running Windows. As long as the 2.5" drive is connected, you should be able to select it from somewhere within VPC. I haven't used it since version 5, though, so I'm not sure exactly how to do it. You should be able to though.

When I get v7 I will work it out I guess.

It sounds like a good idea actually. What you're saying is that window$ will actually be sitting on my external yet VPC on mu internal so it won't actually suffer any further slow down do to the external HD having a slower rpm than the internal HD?

Interesting.

Thanks for that.

No, that's not what I'm saying at all! You generally want to have all your applications installed to your Applications folder, which is on your main drive. However, if you have Windows installed on an external hard drive, it will have to run from the external drive, and that will make it slower (assuming the external drive is slower than the internal). The reason you'd want to do that is just to make sure you don't run out of room.

Well now that makes a lot more sense.
