Hi everyone,
First of all, I did search for this topic, but felt that no threads were specific enough to help me.
Basically, my 10gig 3G iPod just blew out today, meaning that I literally have no idea what happened. iTunes gave me wired "inability to read" messages, and while it was still mounted as a drive, the music couldn't be read. So, I went to restore it and start over, and the restore process won't complete. At one point, the restore process hung my computer, and forced me to reboot, and now the iPod isn't recognized by Disk Utility or Finder under OS X. It constantly reboots with the file folder icon.
Here is what I have done, unsuccessfully:
1. Restore App, which doesn't work, locks up in the middle.
2. Disk Utility, from the boot disk, to attempt to erase the iPod, but that locks up as well. It recognizes the disk, but hangs in the same way as the Restore App.
I have it sitting in Disk Mode right now to prevent the hard drive from constantly spinning up and down. None of the Apple recommended solutions do anything, and searching the AppleCare discussions, all they eventually say is to "send it in for service".
I simply can't afford to do that, as I am out of warranty. I can't spend the money on shipping, then they tell me it is going to cost hundreds of dollars.
Does anyone know this specific problem, and a solution?
