Hi, everyone! I just ordered a PB and it is on it's way and I am so excited! I will be doing some video editing, with 2 GB RAM on the PB, and thanks to filmmaker 2002 (O:, want to get an external HD as a backup and to render raw video feeds onto the external drive while editing on the PB. What do you think? How much memory on my external drive will I need? And external drive recommendations?
Thanks!

Well I think that the size of the HD will be based on exactly how much video we are talking aobut here. 30 second commercials or feature length films. My advice though really doesn't depend on what you are doing though its just general advice. Buy what you can afford, the more space the better. The only caution is that the largest sized HD's force you to pay a premium for them so I would avoid them. I also see no reason to buy a premade drive when you can make one yourself. Just buy a HD and a firewire case. As for the HD, everyone likes something else, some prefer speed over noise or whatever, I would look at seagate because of their warranty which will be much more than the warranty that comes with a commercial external drive, it just doesn't apply to the case itself but since thats 30 bucks its not as important. Just look for good rebate deals because just about every HD can be had for 50 cents a gig.

I'll post another version of Powaqqatsi's post (which will also always hold true):
You need more.
Seriously, though, I'd get whatever works out well on a $/GB ratio (generally not the biggest or the smallest drives) and then get more as you need them. You can daisy chain them to a certain degree, I think, and if you follow the last poster's advice you can swap out an older, smaller drive for a bigger one later if need be.
A good place to look for info on the drives themselves is www.storagereview.com
