my main prob is organising my phone contacts in the address book (my list is growing and i have to scroll forever to get the one i want)

i want sub-folders in a heirarchical fashion where i can bury seldom used contacts, yet still keep 'em in memory and have 'em pop up when i'm called

anyone know of a hack that'll do this - i can't find anything, anywhere

The closest I have come is to add contacts to the My Friends list, and then assign that a hotkey (I use the "move stick right" to call up that list). Otherwise, you can search for contacts from within the address book by typing the first letter, and then scrolling to the appropriate contact.

Cheers!

I have the same problem and have resorted to using the key that corresponds to the name and scrolling to the result. I've got around 350 names and its' reasonably quick to find who I want.

My gripe is that the not all the contact details come across using iSync. No pictures, no addresses even though the fields are there. Any suggestions on that one?

okay, so hitting the ‘O’ key to get the ‘O’ffice works -

however, the MyFriends suggestion can be done easier (for me) via speed dial

i still want my contacts in sub-folders so am bumping this thread back to the top in hope that someone out there has a solution

Fillman: no idea on the iSync thing - haven’t got bluetooth organised yet - but i tried exporting a vCard, via email, to the phone, put it into File Manager/Other and all i can do is send it on - can’t view it myself

guess i’m just gunna have to read the damn manual: boring

happened to me before too. What I did was to disable syncing with the K700i on iSync, hit the Sync button, then re-enabling it and Syncing again. Somehow on the 2nd try all my contacts were able to sync properly.

yeah, i'm afraid pictures can't be sync-ed at this moment. however I do believe that addresses can, but u have to set the address type in Address Book as "work" and not "home".

hope that helps.

You can do the key thing to jump to the first letter of the person, or if you don't need your entire address book, create a group called "Phone" or something and put the contacts you need in that group. Then in iSync set it so that it only syncs that group.

Thanks for the confirmation. I figured that was the problem. It took me several goes to get the syncing working but it now does it very quickly.

i've found that the 500 or so contact numbers actually means about 200 contacts with 2 or 3 numbers each. In my master address book I have about 750 contacts and I keep a sub folder called phone (duh!) with 200 names which I sync on. When I first tried syncing everything would hang and timeout, leaving bluetooth open and unusable without a restart on the phone. I eventually figured out the sequence and a sync takes about a minute each time now.

Getting back to topic; I've set joystick shortcut to contacts then hit first triplet key to jump close and scroll from there. I've also set a few numbers to a different default on the phone to save right scrolling as well.

It's a dinky little phone I have to admit...

the Group thing works but:

K700 won’t let me assign a shortcut to a particular Group and once the contact is in there, it’s still in my main address book

to explain: i work on movies which means for each one i work on there are up to forty numbers i need daily. so when i start on Ghost Rider in the new year i just want to toggle and jump straight to my Ghost Rider contacts folder

(and archive this folder once we’ve wrapped)

problem is: these people are gunna stay in my main address book for years to come - and i might not work with some of them for years to come

so i really need to archive my contacts into sub-folders

there’s gotta be a way - shirley it can’t be that hard

ps: i might just post this link in the mobile9 forum

OK I understand your issue a bit better now. I also work on multiple projects at the same time. For each project in my address book on the Mac, I generate a single folder. At the moment I have about 30 folders. I have one extra called Phone group.

In the phone group is the flat file of all my current contacts which is a subset of the current projects. The problem as you explained is that there is no way of sub grouping. My work around is to ensure that for every address card in a group there is a unique key word. Usually it's there in the company name or domain or something anyway.

I can then move contacts in and out of the phone folder using the search bar on the keyword and then doing a sync to bring the k700 into line. I would maintain the master set in address book and move numbers on a daily (or whatever) to and from the phone.

That way the K700 has a small set of numbers and you can find that person you want real quick. The thing that really makes it work is Bluetooth which means you press one button while the phone's still in your pocket and you're up to date or archived whenever you want.

This may help a bit.....
