I know the general consensus is that All in ones suck. I agree that individual items will always give you better quality. However, I'm planning on getting an iBook soon, and there are a bunch of rebates for the Epson All in Ones. Basically, I would end up making money on either the CX4600 or the CX5400 when purchased with the iBook.

I have a Canon i860 printer that I'm thrilled with, but it would be nice to have a scanner/copier as well. I certainly wouldn't use the AiO for just printing. Of course, a stand alone scanner would be better for this, but making $50 or $70 versus spending $80-100 for a low end scanner is a big swing.

So, for light use (and yes, I know it will clog). My wife is pretty computer-phobic, so she would certainly appreciate being able to use it as just a standalone copier. So, will I just hate the thing with a passion? Should I just get it, use it until it breaks/runs out of ink, and then get a real scanner? Any experience with either or both of these units? Thanks!

Ben

The scanner works pretty good as well as the copy function. Quality of prints are good but it does clog alot especially with cheap ink. Epson ink is so freaking expensive as most all ink is. If your not paying much for it as I did I would recomend it. Be prepared to get pissed off at occasionally and damn that thing is noisy.

Yeah in other words it sucks. But if its free who cares. You get what you pay for most of the time.

Any printer you get is practically free, they sell it at a loss. It is the ink that they make their money, you really think it costs them $30 for a tiny bit of ink.

Think about how much it costs to fill the printer once. You could get a good printer for that costs that uses less ink in the long run.
