Here's a question -- what if you want to use an iPod mini in the truck/gym and have a larger iPod for travelling/use as a spare drive? Can you easily sync your playlists up via iTunes or do we do it the "Finder Way"?

Thanks

i have auto synch off and i load playlists to both my ipod and my sisters.

i think things only get messy when you have auto synch on.

It should be possible to set the big iPod on auto-sync, and the iPod mini to sync only those songs that have the checkmark.

Or do the mini manually. In any case, you should be able to auto-sync the regular iPod without problems.

Maybe try the method of choosing which PLAYLISTS to synch. Easier than managing checkmarks, and easier than copying manually. I only have one iPod though

If you have auto on with a Mini and more music than it'll fit in your library, it'll go through and choose playlists high on rotation. I have 3, my 40Gb 4G model, my Mini and my g/f's Mini and found it easier to have all three manually sync'ed. The 40, I keep everything on it, so I just add new songs as I get them.
For the Minis, I'm more selective as I keep audiobooks I'm going through, new albums and favorites on mine, while my g/f has her own tastes.

Yes, that's what I want to do. Have my driving/workout music on the Mini, and my 40GB for when travelling.

Thanks for the insight!

I have both a mini and a 40g, and ended up in the same situation. What I did was have two totally different music libraries on each. On the 40gig I hvae all my cds ripped and a large amount of other mp3s, but in large chunks by artist. On the mini I have variety, a lot of bands, but only one or two songs for each band.

I can't really help you with the syncing problem, I sync my 40g with my Mac, and the mini with my Windows workstation at my office. I do know this, I manually drag the playlists to each ipod, and I've hooked both up to the mac at different times, and moved playlists over without a problem. YMMV
