i have an apple 20" multiscan from c. 10 years ago and it seems to be working ok , it cost me a lot when i bought it and i'm loathe to just throw it in a skip etc

any chance it would work with a powermac g5 ?

its got a db-15 video out , how do you go about connecting it and will it slow down the video from the g5 ??

I'm not sure about the G5, but doesn't it have some kind of ADB->VGA adapter included? As for your other question, it won't slow down anything - why should it? It's just a monitor.

Using the DVI->VGA adapter that came with the G5, and then adding an HD15->DB15 adapter (like the ones that came with the PowerBook G3 models and blue and white G3's), it should work just fine.

There would be no "slowdown" -- monitors just don't work like that. Only resolution and color depth make any difference. The old one will cause identical system performance to a modern monitor at the same resolution. (Mac OS X should always be run at 24-bit, so that's a non-issue as well.)
