I inquired about this over on the Howard boards but there are very few OS X users there it seems and I am wondering if anyone has tried using BluePhoneElite w/ the new Motorola Razr V3? They list full compatiblity w/ the V600 -- and the V3 is almost identical to it feature-wise, but that's where the similarities end... I'm not sure how different the OS is between the two and if the V3 will be compatible w/ BluePhoneElite...

If any current V3 owners are willing to play around with it for a while I'd be interested in knowing what works and what doesn't.

Thanks for your time

It doesn't sync the address book... it doesn't support syncing of address book. what it does mainly is SMS messaging. So it does connect to the Razr V3 by bluetooth but it only has limited options... no internet... only making calls and SMS. If someone knows a software that works with this phone on the mac let me know.

Hey there, the release after I posted this showed limited support for the V3 on their site so I went ahead and bought one. BPE is pretty much good only for SMS and proximity scripting.

• For syncing the Addressbook and iCalendars you can use iSync via a USB cable (such as one that comes w/ a digital camera which is what I use instead of paying $50 for Motorola's "data cable").

• For moving ringtones, pictures/wallpapers, and video to and from the phone you can do this via bluetooth using Bluetooth File Exchange. Also, once you've paired the V3 w/ your machine you can just use the "move" or "copy" commands on the V3 to transfer photographs off of the phone and to your machine.

• For some reason Apple's Bluetooth File Exchange software does not allow you to take advantage of the phone's OBEX Push compatiblity, it only allows OBEX File Transfer (wallpaper/audio/video) -- so to install Java apps you need to use a client that talks to the phone via the OBEX Push protocol, I've had success w/ a client called ThinAir:

It works fairly well, may have to restart the app every once in a while if you're installing a lot of applications or games onto the V3 at one time.

So, in short the bluetooth support is there for moving files to and from the phone and installing applications. All we really need now is for Apple to get on top of the bluetooth support for syncing contacts and calendars, Motorola doesn't support the same standards Apple uses so they seem to be passing the blame onto each other right now.

If you noticed in one Steve Jobs' last keynote speeches he had the Razr V3 prominently displayed on one of his slides -- I wish I could remember which presentation that was in... I believe it was the last one covering Tiger. Anyway, the point is that this seems promising... chances are iSync will be getting a major overhaul w/ the release of Tiger.
