I just purchased a LaCie d2 drive with what I was told was either a Pioneer 108 or NEC drive inside. My question was if I later want something faster, can I remove the current drive and pop in another? ie Treat it as a 3 1/2 external drive case. Or can't it be removed, or isn't the drive an actual PC type internal 3 1/2, or the firmware in the box won't work with any other drive?

ie So replace the current NEC later with a Pioneer, maybe a new 109, and no problems with the casing firmware or compability with the newer drive??? ie Like replacing one internal with another pn a PowerMac?

Thanks!
