I'm looking to get a new dvd burner but I want one that supports dvd-ram. I specifically want to be able to mount the dvd-ram discs from my panasonic dvd recorder (the standalone kind for recording the TV).

I've checked out some lacie products and I've found a couple around the £200 mark, which is in my price range and they are firewire.

But I was wondering if anyone has bought a dvd-ram device and what they thought. I've read that dvd-ram is slower than the dvd+-rw drives. They are also more expensive and they are harder to find cheap.

I also would like to know if it's possible to just change the internal drive in my external Lacie firewire cd-rw case for an internal dvd-ram device because internal drives are about half the price.

Any links to places to buy cheap Mac supported dvd-ram devices would be much appreciated.

Also, I have a 700MHz ibook - will that be fast enough to play/extract/burn dvds?

I just found this:

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=64763

Does a mac have drivers for LG products?

If that link doesn't load, search for product 64763 at ebuyer.com

BUMP! I guess I should've upraded to SuperDrive

I have my Panasonic DVD-ES10 (HomeTheater) Multi/DVD-RAM, my choice since it's the only Format that let's me Edit my recordings.

Any recommendation. If DVD-RAM is not available, which do you recommended...I'm thinking Sony

btw, this is for my Mini (1.42GHz, 512MB)

Yes, I did it. swapped the lite-on cdrw inside my LaCie d2 FireWire case with a Philips Dual Layer 1640 series. It works great with PatchBurn 4 (to get iLife apps support), Toast 6…

Since you have a G3 cpu, you can only play and burn DVDs, but not encode them. Tools like Handbrake require a G4+ cpu for encoding.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
