This is sort of off topic. I am thinking of purchasing a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. However, before I do, I have a question. From what I read on this forum and other Bluetooth forums, I see that the batteries in both Bluetooth mice and Bluetooth keyboards have to be replaced often (two to three weeks). My question is how hard is it to replace the batteries on these devices? Can the batteries be replaced easily? I ask this because I have the use of only one hand due to a stroke. Judging from your experiences, will I be able to replace the batteries with one hand?

I would much rather go with Bluetooth, however, I am wondering if I should go wireless instead of with Bluetooth since the batteries in wireless devices do not have to be changed that often.

I've owned many Logitech RF and BT mice, and all had a battery holder that was easy to open and close with one hand. In any case, you might want to take a look at Logitech's newer rechargeable mice.

I also use an Apple Wireless Keyboard, which I believe is less amenable to one-handed battery replacement. Fortunately, the batteries in the keyboard last for a fairly long time (1-2 months).

I suggest that you play with the demo mice and keyboards at CompUSA or an Apple Store.

As for batteries, the overwhelmingly best solution is to get 8 or 10 rechargeable NiMH (nickel metal hydride) batteries, which are fairly cheap and high capacity these days, and a simple charger. I use Ripvan100's LightningPack, but most chargers are good. You can find reviews online. This one-time purchase will serve you for 1000's of recharges, and the NiMH batteries will function much, much longer than traditional alkalaine ones. Wonder why you never see commercials for the NiMH ones? They don't need replacement often enough to guarantee a profit.

The batteries in my Apple Wireless Keyboard last a very long time for me... I've had the keyboard about 6 months, and I'm only on my second set.

Go with the NiMH or lithium. You'll have to change them as often as you post.

edit: crap, i'm tired but I still think that's every 20 days. half as often as you post maybe.

The bluetooth must be sucking power like water, I have a Logitech wireless KB for my PC and the batteries in it went for like, oh about 20 months before konking out. This is with regular daily use as well!
