Although this product seems pretty simple, and there are a number of other speaker systems (including one from none other than Bose), it caught my interest as it's the first real "Boombox" or Stereo radio based design I've seen, with an integrated FM radio. It would be pretty neat just to pop in your iPod and take it for a ride to the beach or a party or just a gathering of friends.

But, I also have a few reservations about it. Why not an AM radio too? I know this is geared more towards music, which is more commonly found on FM, but there are music stations on AM too, and some people like to hear talk shows, as well. Also, why no CD player? A lot of people still carry around CDs, and if you're at a friend's house, and he wants to listen to a CD then your "Boombox" is no longer fit.

And, what about the iPod itself? Can you put it in with an iSkin or similar protector? I mean, we all know how easily damaged the iPod casing is, and you wouldn't seriously expect any iPod user to place an iPod near water or in any potentially dangerous outdoors environment (for which the iBoom seems tailored for) without any protection, now would you?

As with most products, the iBoom seems to miss the mark in a few spots, but overall it looks pretty neat and the price doesn't seem to be too bad as far as something like this goes. So, what do you think of the iBoom?

My initial response: "Oh my...Gaud!"

It certainly does remind me of boomboxes of the '80s, with its oversized orange (?) display, nonconformity to any particular style, and just excessive appearance. And I thought that iPod tote bag was a hurl. It now has competition.

That being said, PC users should love it. It should perform well plus it's the cheapest option at $149, and that's all they care about.

Well, it's certainly interesting.

I agree that it should have an AM receiver also, but what would be the point of a CD player? It would add to the size (and cost) of the device and anyone with a iPod has probably ripped the majority of the music they'd listen to.

Again, it's an interesting idea for music portability, but I'll stick with these: Philips Travel Speakers.
