There is a thread about this like every month. Yes apple does own that domain name, and I believe a few others that they don't use. However, they've owned them for a while and I don't think anything has come of it. However, if they do make a cell phone sometime in the future I might just be inclined to buy it!

I would be very surprised if iPhone, at least in hardware form factor, surfaces within the next few years. VoIP-enabled iChat, on the other hand, will likely happen.

That said, Apple is testing water with its iTunes for cell phones, first slated to appear on new Motorola cell phone models due first half of next year. I can only guess, but I suspect either its licensees (e.g., Motorola) or Apple will eventually design phone UI consistent with iTunes for cell phones.
