Well the imac has a single optical port so what do i do? do i have to return them or is there some type of converter and if there is a converter will i still get true 5.1...I bought a toslink cable but i guess thats kinda useless now that i found this out...

I think you need speakers with an optical input, like my Z-5500's, to work. If the speakers have no optical inputs there is no way I know of for you to get 5.1 out of your Mac with them.

Those speakers don't have an integrated surround decoder, which you need. I have heard that the Creative SoundBlaster Extigy USB audio unit will work on Macs, even though it's not supported on the Mac.

Only Logitech's $400 speaker sets (the Z-5500 Digital and the Z-680) have the integrated decoder.

For half that much, you could buy a cheap home theater receiver with a Dolby Digital decoder, and with a few adapter cables, hook your speakers up to its unamplified outputs.
