i just picked up a macmice themousebt (stupidonewordproductnames), and it's a great product, except that i can't play games with it. my bt firmware is up to date, and it's got a clean connection (a foot and a half away, no other devices), and it functions wonderfully in the os and every other app, but if i'm playing a game (any newer/higher end game - halo, unreal, warcraft, whatever) the game gets choppy - but it works fine with older games (medal of honor with all of the settings at the max, call of duty, etc.). i've tried turning down the graphics settings and all of that, but to no avail. i've heard rumors (read: a singular, unconfirmed rumor) of this happening with this mouse, but i didn't expect it to, or to be this bad.

is there anyway i can solve this problem? i genuinely need a bt mouse (all two of the usb ports on my powerbook are taken, always) - if this problem can't be fixed is there anyother bt mouse that i can purchase that i can play games with (i'm thinking the logitech mx900) that won't slow down my games?

i realize bluetooth is limited to 800 kb/s, but that should cause mouse lag (which it doesn't), not processor lag. right?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

addition: i'm running 10.3.4. i'm not all that familiar with bluetooth, so i thought i should mention.

edit number two: i used to use a targus bt mouse that required a usb bt adapter (for some reason os x can't detect it and targus hasn't released a driver), but it worked just fine with games. again, just thought i should mention.

FWIW, from the MacMice FAQ page:

Is The Mouse BT good for gaming?
The "gaming" answer has a lot to do with the driver software answer...

The number one market space asking for expanded mouse control features is from the gaming crowd. Since no Bluetooth mouse (from any maker, including us) is as responsive as a premium USB mouse in fast-paced action gaming use, it makes little sense to invest into an expanded driver for an application that is intrinsically inappropriate for the product, in the first place.

Unlike any other Bluetooth wireless mouse maker, we are going to be very explicit in our marketing that no current Bluetooth wireless mouse is as good with real-time first-person action gaming as a really good USB mouse. We have corresponded with many buyers of these BT mice who have been disappointed at having bought their new mouse for action gaming, only to find out that it wasn't as responsive as the USB mice they had previously used. We do not intend to mislead our customers into this type of disappointment; and, we think that all manufacturers of Bluetooth wireless mice should be equally forthright in their marketing. Bluetooth mice are not as responsive with first-person action gaming as good USB mice.

Ditto for Apple's own BlueTooth mouse (from personal experience). Next generation BlueTooth is suppose to triple the bandwidth. Maybe that will help with BT mice and gaming. But for now, the MacMice advice is sound. Gamers are better off getting a high quality USB mouse instead.

Make sure the batteries are fresh. FWIW, I use this in CoD:U O (with the few servers that are left) and I'm consistently a top-scorer. Sad, I know.
