well , here is the main issue with QuickTime , posted by Nixice

Actually OS 10.4 (tiger) will use the same mpeg4 as the PSP which is H.264.

Right, but there are still flavors of H.264, for some reason, and that's the problem.

The videos however must be 320x240. Apparently Sony crippled the playback of video that's played from the memorystick.

Tough to say -- the format isn't fully understood yet, people just hacked the file format a bit for this freeware app. I believe they did this by parsing CLIE and other Sony MP4 files. Sony's ImageStation2 converter isn't any better -- it makes CLIE videos, not PSP videos. People have been able to reconfigure the INI file to make full-res images, but I don't think they've figured out the file structure yet to know for sure that this hack is encompassing every size instruction for the file, if you get what that means.

Also, someone posted a "PSP-video-demo" thing here a while ago, with a few MP4s, and they run fine in the current version of Quicktime, but the codec listed under info isn't h.264, but 3ivX 4.5.

Right, like I said, very odd format so far. 3IVX is, I think, using a flavor of MP4 just like DIVX (probably Simple Profile), which makes it more curious why Apple MP4 clips cannot play.

Very odd on the whole how this whole thing is working - hopefully, Sony will help to sort it out soon, because I want to finally find a format and do it to it for a bunch of my home movie work.

So it basically blows for ease-of-use...

Sounds great for a portable storage/memory stick duo reader, if that's your bag. As far as Mac OS X compatibility. Me, I'd like PIM functions. For about $200 more you could get a higher-end Tapwave Zodiac.

The eternal "Hmm" applies.

I am quite optimistic for PSP considering Sony stopped making Clie. There is nothing stopping PSP from moving in that direction. I think they've learned a lot from looking at iPod ..where iPod strated off as a music device and slowly moving into Photos, Phonebooks, data mover , etc..... PSP is starting as a gaming device and i think it could easily appeal to the same ipod user....a kind of development of two devices that will advance in parallel. No to forget that WiFi feature is promissing ....as well as that PSP had infrared and its use we still dont know. Before we know it ...we might have a browser on PSP, an address book, calendar ....etc...

What i would love to see is a 3rd party utilitity that makes iphoto talk to PSP. Then we could sync are photos to PSP. This would make a lot more sense that a tiny screen iPodPhoto has. Another 3rd party plugin we need is for iSync to sync all our contacts to PSP. I dont think we are too far away from all of these.

I'm down with syncing. I wonder if Mark/Space would be: up to the task/care/have the APIs. The snag though is the lack of a touchscreen for real ease-of-use. That would be very bomb -- otherwise it's a relatively passive device.
