My dear wife and son got me a HP LaserJet 1160 for Chanukah this year. So far it’s been amazing, despite my earlier post complaining about the “USB 2.0 compatible port” that only runs at USB 1.1 speeds. I really like the compact design (it fits in a small cubby in my computer armoire above the monitor), good looks, very nice speed, and excellent print quality. I’m very pleased.

My nearly-10-year-old LaserJet 6MP was just starting to get too fussy and old. The cover wouldn't always close, and then I really killed it by taking it apart trying to replace the roller. I knew I was in trouble when, after reassembly, I still had some strange-looking parts and screws lying around. LOL. Oops. “Gee, honey—why doesn’t the printer work anymore?”

HP, in my opinion, makes very good laser printers. They certainly are the industry "standard."

I agree. It’s so wonderful to have a product that represents such a good value, especially in this era of eminently tossable hardware.

I have the LaserJet 1160 as well (posted a review on Amazon, in fact). Although I love it too, I am not sure about it being a good value. It costs $100 or more than competitors. That said, I have spent months evaluating printers and it does function better (particularly output quality and paper handling) than lower-priced competitors. And that to me was worth $100 premium. It looking great is an icing.

What do you know? I bought mine at Amazon (via TigerDirect) too! Well, to my mind, value does not necessarily mean “lowest in price,” but rather the most favorable ratio of price to performance, durability, esthetics, print quality, etc.
