I was shopping for an Epson 4870 scanner, but all the retailers were out of stock and the product page at the Epson site has been deleted

Is there a new model I'm unaware of? Did a competitor come out with something better by order of magnitudes and Epson just crawled into a corner? Is it a global conspiracy against me?

Its in stock at the US retailer Newegg.com... so it looks like its not a global consipiracy.. yet...

Next month the Epson 4990 scanner should be available.
