I want to give my sister my 2nd generation iPod (before the docking station) for use with her original 300 MHz Tangerine iBook. Her iBook only has a single USB 1.1 port and no firewire. The iPod is FireWire.... Any ideas on how I can pull this off so it will work for her?

Don't think it's possible.

Has Apple enabled USB support for iPods on Macs? Before the 4th Gens you couldn't sync an iPod to a Mac through USB, even if the Mac had USB2. Of course, not that there'd be much point.

Oh right, didn't think about that. Anyway, from the site:
Mac system requirements
Macintosh computer with FireWire port
Mac OS X v10.1.5 or later (Mac OS X 10.3 or later recommended)
USB 2.0 requires Mac OS X v10.3.4

A PC friend has a 3G iPod, and originally bought it without having firewire on his PC, so he used the USB 1 port on his PC. It was slow, but it worked, he later got a firewire card and kicked himself for not getting firewire earlier. This was on a PC so it is different, but it did work on PC through USB 1.

You cannot use a 1G or 2G iPod on a computer without FireWire, and the iBooks have absolutely no way to add a missing port.
A 3G or 4G iPod might work via USB (albeit slowly if it's USB 1) with Mac OS 10.3.4 or later. Apple officially says USB 2 only, but knowing them, it might still work with USB 1.

I have a clamehell iBook (300Mhz) and the 2G iPod as well.
It's impossible to link them 2gether.

I'd advise you to ebay the 2G and buy a mini - should not cost too much more, and I believe that it would then work, but slowly.
