I posted a thread about this a few weeks ago and got no good answers. My 3G iPod is dying (crappy battery life, barely readable screen, etc.) I am definetly going to buy a new iPod sometime soon, but on the macrumors buyers guide, which is usually somewhat reliable, shows that the iPod is ready for an update seeing as how the last one was in July.

I don't want to spend $300 right now for a 20 GB just to have a price drop (unlikely) or more GB's for the same price come out in a few months.

Actually that site seems out of date, since there is no mention of the 10/26 introduction of the ipod photo's. That's pretty recent.

I don't think it's out of date. I believe that the dates are just for the iPod, eg. not the iPod mini or iPod photo or iPod U2.

Considering that the original poster is looking at a 60GB iPod (photo), which was release on 10/26/04, I think it's safe to say that it WON'T be updated.

There will probably be an 80-GB version, but the necessary hard drives are scheduled for mass production sometime in summer, making an introduction unlikely before July/August or so.

The only thing that *could* happen, IMHO, is that the 20- and 40-GB models are updated to include a color screen at the same price point, and that the current iPod photos will come down in price accordingly. I don't think it's likely that this will happen soon.
