I have a 3g 40gig iPod... It must of fell when the drive was spinning because I get a fun clicking/grinding noise when it trys to access the drive.

The case is in pretty good shape
The drive is dead
Everything else looks ok.

Should I try to buy another Hard Drive (can you even find them)?
Should I sell it (how much)?

What do you guys think?

macresq.com will buy the remains of it from you for a pretty fair price.

you can find the drives around, but be sure you get a drive with a "female" connector like the toshiba that's in there - a lot of the ones i've aren't.

i've got a 3G with a dead logic board (those are $150) so i'm looking for something to do with the rest of the parts (like maybe a small enclosure to put the drive in and use as a 15G usb key).

I'm sure that a 15Gb drive from a 3G would fit inside a 40Gb 3G case - maybe the two of you could get together to make a functioning 15Gb 3G?

heh, I'm sure he feels the same way I do... we both just want our ipod to work!... I feel kinda naked

get an adapter and connect it to a 2.5 inch laptop drive with a battery jury-rigged to it any twelve volt battery should work(i think) duct tape the whole package together make a cloth case to put it in and enjoy your hundred gig ipod.
