My 20Gb grey clickwheel iPod is about 6 month old and behaving strangely. I'd like some help figuring out what's wrong.

When I plug it into the dock it sounds like the hd is trying to rev and then, quickly, it fades, only to do the same thing for several repetitions. Then I get an icon - a sideways folder with what appears to be a triangular caution(?) sign to the lower left of the folder. Then it might start alternating between the check mark and the do not disconnect symbol. At no point does it show up in iTunes (4.7) or on the desktop.

Is there any significance to the fact that it sits at night in my Altec speakers?

My ipod was recently bugging out also. I would suggest running the restore feature from your ipod software updater, as it seemed to smooth mine out.

You'll lose the songs but a quick sync afterwards will get you up and runnin again.
