Hi All,

I just installed a Pioneer DVR-108 burner in my G5 (mine didn't come with a 117 :-(

It came with firmware version 1.14, and I'm having trouble burning discs at 8x (4x is fine, but if I wanted 4x, I would've stayed with the stock drive). The company from which I bought it suggested I update the firmware in the drive (why the heck is a drive that is rated at 16x in need of a firmware update to burn faster than 4x? <grr>).

Ok, I've been to several Pioneer websites, and all of the firmware updates I could find are PC executables. How do I flash the firmware for this drive? (and where the heck do I get the necessary firmware, anyways?)

Thanks in advance for any help,

Chas

umm, nobody here has ever had to flash optical drive firmware?

Surely there must be a way (other than pulling the drive and dropping it into a PC :-/

Cant really help much im afraid.. But I had the same problem when I put a Pioneer 107 into my eMac. I eventually came across a french(!) site with various Pioneer firmwares on it, including OS X installers for them. Unfortunately, I don't see the 108 drive on there yet.
but 'apparently' the uploading software can be used to upload any firmware, which is readily available in itself. But you'd have to be pretty brave to try it. Here's the french site, in case its any use..

Although this page is french, the firmware/software you download is actually all in English and quite straight forward to use.
Lord only knows why there isnt a better solution than this though
All the best!
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.
